HENRYETTA â€” For the second straight season, the Heavener High School cross country program will have a runner participate at the biggest meet of the year. Senior Jose Farias qualified for the Class 3A State Meet for the second straight season.
Farias placed ninth overall at Saturday's Class 3A Regional Meet, and grabbed the third overall individual state berth, with a time of 18:49. He will run at the state meet at 10:30 a.m. this Saturday at Shawnee's Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech Center.
As a team, the Wolves were seventh with 134 points. Sequoyah-Tahlequah was the regional team champion with 39 points, followed by Kansas (65 points), host Henryetta (87), Kingston (104) and Holdenville (128) as the teams which qualified all their runners for next Saturday's state meet. Tulsa Victory Christian (132 points) edged out Heavener for sixth place.
As for the other Wolves, Arturo Ortega was 16th (20:05), Octavio Sanchez was 45th (22:09), Miguel Alcantar was 46th (22:10) and Cesar Gonzales was 53rd (23:25).
The Lady Wolves did not have a full team, but had one runner miss out on getting as state berth by 17 seconds.
Araceli Farias was 16th overall with a time of 14:05. The last individual state qualifier was Meeker's Kathryn Ozan, who was 12th with a time of 13:48.
Melyssa Lynch was 40th (15:19), Gloriann Staines was 56th (17:54) and Ali Paxton was 61st (19:01).
