Heavener cross country teams eighth in first-ever varsity meet

TAHLEQUAH — In the first cross country meet in Heavener High School history, the Wolves and Lady Wolves were both eighth in the Tahlequah Early Tiger Invitational Thursday afternoon.
In the boys' division, the Wolves were eighth with 221 points. Tulsa Union won the team title with 35 points, followed by host Tahlequah (37 points), Lincoln Christian (58), Jay (139), Claremore (162), Muskogee (172) and Sallisaw (217).
Jose Farias was Heavener's highest finisher as he was 32nd (15:57.96). He was followed by Dakotah McGee in 46th place (16:38.08), Cesar Gonzales in 64th place (17:09.4), Arturo Ortega in 69th place (17:20.65), Octavio Sanchez in 115th place (20:32.55), Shaun Bradley in 121st place (22:38.98), Kaleb Ary in 134th place (32:02.96) and David Rangel in 136th place (32:02.96).
In the girls' division, the Lady Wolves were also eighth, scoring 189 points. Host Tahlequah won the girls' team title with 54 points. Lincoln Christian was second (79 points), followed by Fort Gibson (96 points), Tulsa Union (101), Keys (Park Hill) (112), Jay (123) and Claremore (186).
Araceli Farias came in 35th with a time of 9:59.27 to be Heavener's highest placer. Johna Enger was 37th (10:01.34), Jazmin Cruz was 40th (10:03.14), Kaylen Leder was 56th (10:42.34) and Caitlin Carson was 73rd (12:25.43).
The Heavener runners will be idle until Thursday when they will participate in the Owasso Invitational, which will begin at 4:15 p.m. that day.
