COWETA — With the Heavener High School cross country program returning to full strength this season, it only seemed appropriate that the Lady Wolves and Wolves qualified for the biggest meet of the year — state.
The Heavener teams qualified everyone to next weekend's Class 3A State Meet by finishing in the top seven in team standings at the Class 3A Regional Meet on Saturday.
The Lady Wolves were sixth with 153 points, and were led by Johna Enger's 19th-place finish (14:11.22). Araceli Farias was 27th (14:39.81), Melyssa Lynch was 32nd (14:49.33), Caitlin Carson was 51st (15:39.65) and Yazmin Cruz was 53rd (15:42.32).
The Wolves grabbed the final team spot in which to qualify as they were seventh with 155 points.
Jose Farias was Heavener's highest finisher as he was 17th (18:58.72). Cesar Gonzales was 32nd (20:17.94), followed by Dakotah McGee in 33rd place (20:29.7), Arturo Ortega in 44th place (21:44.29) and Octavio Sanchez in 51st place (22:24.58).
The Class 3A State Meet will take place at noon Saturday at Shawnee's Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech Center.
