Heavener girls beat Cameron in Pocola Tournament on Monday; Spiro, Wister girls also post opening-day wins; Lady Yellowjackets stay alive with win over Stigler

POCOLA — The Heavener Lady Wolves got their 2014 fast-pitch softball season off and running with an 8-0 win over the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets in the Pocola Tournament on Monday.
The Lady Wolves met Wister, which blanked the Keota Lady Lions by the same 8-0 score on Monday, in the wininer's-bracket semifinals on Tuesday, with the winner playing in the winner's-bracket final at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs also posted a shutout to begin their season, blanking the Stigler Lady Panthers 9-0. Spiro faced host Pocola on Tuesday afternoon in the other winner's-bracket semifinal, with the winner meeting the Heavener-Wister winner in Thursday night's winner's-bracket final.
The Lady ’Jackets stayed alive in the tournament, edging the Lady Panthers 6-5.
