Heavener girls make state, win regional title

McALESTER — There will be LeFlore County representation at next week's state slow-pitch softball tournament.
The Heavener Lady Wolves won the Class 5A Regional Tournament Thursday afternoon by outlasting the Henryetta Lady Knights 6-5 in nine innings in the championship game. Earlier in the day, the Lady Wolves beat the Valliant Lady Bulldogs 11-8.
The Lady Wolves will play Blanchard at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Class 5A State Tournament at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
In the title game, Tiffany Taylor's bases-loaded, RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Elyssa Turner with the game-winning run to break a 5-all tie.
In the victory over Valliant, Heavener trailed 4-0 after an inning, but scored five runs in the second inning to take a 5-4 lead.
After the Lady Bulldogs took a 7-5 after four innings, the Lady Wolves scored three runs in the fifth inning to regain the lead at 8-7.
After Valliant tied the game at 8-8 after five innings, Heavener took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth inning and once in the seventh.
