Heavener High School and OBI partner for blood drive

May 9, 2013

Oklahoma Blood Institute is partnering with Heavener High School to host a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday in the Home Economics room.
OBI provide all blood needed by patients in Choctaw Nation Health Care System and 140 others across the state.
Sign up in Ms. Wiley’s room. All students must have signed permission slips.
Each donor giving Monday will receive an OBI T-shirt, free health screenings and Donor Reward Points. Donors may choose to forgo the T-shirt to support the Global Blood Fund, which provides supplies and equipment for blood centers in the world’s poorest countries.
Although all blood types are needed, those with O-negative type blood are especially encouraged to donate. According to AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks), those with O-negative blood type make up only nine percent of the national population; however, O-negative blood can be used by anyone in urgent need.
