Heavener Lady Wolves outlast Howe to win LeFlore County JH Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS — The Heavener Lady Wolves won last week's LeFlore County Junior High Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex. The Heavener Lady Wolves survived being forced to two title game by the Howe Lady Lions to win the 2011 LeFlore County Junior High Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament last week at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
After Howe won the first title game 2-0, Heavener came back to capture the winner-take-all title game 5-3 in a game which was called due to the time limit.
Heavener opened tournament play with a win over Leflore, then posted victories over Howe, Poteau and Wister to make it to the championship round.
The championship team roster includes, Kayle Huckaby, Cheyanne Cranfield, Jodie Hill, Erika Lemay, Christian Schiffner, Kajea Ary, Makenzie Wilson, Tayler Ollie, Shelby Smith, Emily Yandell, Megan Alexander, Makaylee Wilson, Sydney Crase, Mason Shubert, Abbi Moody and Coaches Rodale Sanders and Jennifer Moody.
The Lady Lions (17-6) almost completed the inevitable task of going through the loser's bracket to win the title.
After Howe lost to Heavener 11-1 in its first game, the Lady Lions beat Arkoma 10-0, Whitesboro 8-0, Panama 8-1, Hodgen 5-0 and Wister 4-3 to make it to the championship game. In the win over Wister, Howe scored four runs in its last at-bat to overcome a 3-0 deficit.
The Lady Lions, comprised of Gentry Brown, Kerstein Hall, Braden Dorsey, Lakota Vickers, Madison Place, Taya Kellogg, Macee Williams, Julianne Ford, Jasmine Lopez, Lari Coker, Courtney Hall, Hailey Loomis, Lexi Denton, Remington Wilson, Carlyssa Sanchez and Michaela Stacy, have one tournament win this season — the Robbers Cave Shootout earlier this season in Wilburton — while they were third at the Lady ’Back Classic in Panama.
As for other tournament results in the opening round, Hodgen defeated Arkoma, Pocola beat Spiro and Whitesboro got past Cameron.
In the winner's-bracket quarterfinals, Wister beat Hodgen, Panama defeated Pocola and Poteau got past Whitesboro. Wister beat Panama in the semifinals before losing the winner's-bracket final to Heavener.
In consolation play opening-round results, Whitesboro beat Spiro, Hodgen defeated Leflore and Pocola got past Cameron.
Then, Hodgen beat Pocola and Poteau before losing to Howe.
