ARDMORE â€” While there was no LeFlore County high school track athlete who won a state title at the Class 3A-4A State Meet last weekend at Noble Stadium, one local trackster did very well.
Heavener long jumper Shaun Bradley placed third with a mark of 21-0.25 in the Class 3A Boys State Meet, and by so doing was invited to long jump at the Meet of Champions next Tuesday at Moore High School's Lions Stadium.
Bradley and Spiro's Todd Whitfield were the highest county placers. While Bradley was third in the 3A boys long jump, Whitfield placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.53 seconds).
In the Class 4A Girls State Meet, the Poteau Lady Pirates' 3,200-meter relay team of Colleen Peterson, Jazmine Warren, Sheridan Hoyer and Deven Bond was fourth (10:19.6), while Bond was eighth in the 1,600-meter run (5:55.03) and 10th in the 3,200-meter run (13:14.71). Paitton Callery tied for 12th in the pole vault (8-0). As a team, the Lady Pirates tied for 20th with eight points.
For the Pirates, Dakota Clark was fifth in both hurdles at the Class 4A State Meet, 15.58 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 41.84 in the 300-meter hurdles â€” which produced the only points Poteau had (four points). Trevor Shankle was 10th in the shot put (44-2) and 12th in the discus (119-10), while Troy Barnett was 15th in the shot put (39-10).
In the Class 3A Boys State Meet, Spiro's Tyh Hawkins was sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.05 seconds), while Heavener's Aaron Turner was 14th in the shot put (42-2).
As for the Bulldogs' relays, McKinley Whitfield, Malik Walker, Devon Perry and Hawkins were fifth in the 1,600-meter relay (3:32.99), while K.J. Booze, Perry, Knighe Rhoden and Hawkins were seventh in the 400-meter relay (44.32 seconds).
In the Class 3A Boys State Meet, Spiro tied for 16th with 11 points, while Heavener tied for 24th with six points.
In the Class 3A Girls State Meet, Spiro's Tyeecha Hawkins was fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.57 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (26.59). Teammates Philicea Mack and Meochea McKesson also placed in the shot put as Mack was eighth (33-9) and McKesson was ninth (33-8). The Lady Bulldogs tied for 16th in the team standings with eight points.
Heavener's Kamber Vasquez tied for 12th in the high jump (4-6) in the 3A Girls State Meet.
