The Heavener Wolves looked all primed to win their District 2A-6 opener Friday night at Harvey Stadium against the Hartshorne Miners to celebrate Homecoming. However, a rough second half defensively left the Wolves with their second straight loss, 41-25 to the Miners.
“It wasn't that what they did to us,” Heavener Coach John Thompson said. “It's the mistakes that we made. Most of what they got were busted (defensive) plays that went for touchdowns. It's not like they just drove the ball on us. Our kids played good I thought at times, but at other times it looked like we didn't know where we were at. I was proud of the kids. I thought we were the better team, but we just didn't show it on the scoreboard.”
Now, the Wolves (1-3, 0-1 in District 2A-6) will get a chance to upset No. 6 Vian (4-0, 1-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Vian.
