Heavener police probe stabbing
A woman is recovering after her boyfriend allegedly stabbed her at a Heavener motel. According to the Heavener Pol ice Department, officers were dispatched to the Crane Motel July 1 after they received reports of a stabbing. When they arrived they found the victim, Tammie Jelks and two juvenile males at the motel who claimed Jelks boyfriend, Gregory Alan Andrews, 41, of Fort Smith, had stabbed her during an argument. Statements from the victim and witnesses claim an argument between Jelks and Andrews began over money. Jelks reportedly told Andrews she was leaving but first she would call the police because Andrews had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. It was at that time Jelks claimed Andrews slammed her against a car and her son grabbed Andrews. Andrews and Jelks son fought until he was able to get away from Andrews who gave chase while brandishing a knife. Andrews slipped and fell and Jelks son was able to Jelks told officers Andrews then turned on her and accused her of being unfaithful then stabbed her in the abdomen. Andrews fled to the motel room then left the scene walking. Deputies with the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Department located Andrews on Old Pike Road whileHeavener Officers were continuing their investigation into the assault.Andrews was arrested and is being held in the LeFlore County Detention Center on charges of assault with deadly intent. He is being held on a $50,000 bond. Jelks was transported to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smithand treated for her wounds.get away.
