Heavener, Talihina look to return to winning ways as they meet in District 2A-6 contest tonight

October 14, 2011

The Heavener Wolves and the Talihina Golden Tigers are both looking to return to the win column, although only one will as they face each other at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Doc Robinson Stadium.
The Wolves (1-5, 0-3 in district play) lost their third straight game, losing 20-7 to the Wilburton Diggers at Harvey Stadium.
“We should have won that ball game,” Heavener Coach John Thompson said. “We fumbled the ball going in at the (Wilburton) 4-yard line. We were fixing to go tie it up. If we score, I think we have some momentum. We just didn't pull it off. We didn't play bad, we just didn't play good enough to win.”
If the Wolves can pull off the upset, the postseason is still attainable.
“If we win, we're in the playoff hunt,” Thompson said. “If we don't, we're not.”
The Golden Tigers (5-1, 1-1) suffered their first regular-season loss since 2007, falling 34-33 in a thriller against the Pocola Indians at John Carter Field.
“We came out flat, and we got beat,” Talihina Coach Kelly Gravitt said. “It was a rough for the kids. It's been since 2007 since we had lost a regular-season game. There were some sad faces, and rightfully so, when they came back on Monday. But I got to them pretty good in practice, and they responded well. We're getting ready for Heavener coming up, and the kids have come up big in responding in practice to last week's loss.”
