Heavener Thunder reach title game

July 13, 2012

WEATHERFORD — All that stands between the Heavener Thunder OK Kids coach-pitch baseball team and the 2012 State Tournament trophy is a win.
The Thunder reached tonight's state title game with a 13-3, four-inning, run-rule victory over Morrison in Thursday night's winner's-bracket final at Rader Park.
The Thunder will play at 6 p.m. tonight for the state title. The Sallisaw Titans and the Hollis Heat played in the loser's-bracket semifinal Friday night, with the winner meeting Morrison in the loser's-bracket final — with that winner playing the Thunder tonight for the state title.
If a second title game is needed, it will take place at 7:45 p.m. tonight.
For the first time this state tournament, the Thunder trailed, falling behind Morrison 2-0 in the opening inning.
However, the Thunder responded with four runs in their first inning, then a six-run second inning and a three-run third inning to take a 13-2 lead.
Eight of the nine batters in Heavener's line-up had at least one hit, with a trio of batters going 3-for-3 — Bladen Morris, Garris Rice and Brayden Oglesby.
The Thunder also played stellar defense in the field, to keep a potent Morrison team to only three runs over four innings.
