The Heavener Wolves got what may have been the biggest win in quite a while last Friday night, beating the Talihina Golden Tigers 27-13 at Doc Robinson Stadium.
“It was a good win for the kids,” Heavener Coach John Thompson said. “The kids went in and played like they were supposed to. They played like they wanted to win. They started out that way, and they never let up. It was the best game we've played this year.”
The bad news is that the Wolves have to wait a week before getting to play again. For the second straight season, the Tahlequah Tigers junior varsity canceled out on them.
The two teams were to have played tonight at Harvey Stadium. Instead, the Wolves will have to wait until next week when they return to action against Panama. However, Thompson said that's not all that bad a thing for them, since they do have some injuries.
“It's good and bad,:” he said. “'It does let us get healthy, and lets the healing-up process take place.”
So, the Wolves aren't doing too much this week.
“We're going to have a light week of practice,” Thompson said. “We'll just have normal practices, so we can let our bumps and bruises heal. This was the same thing that happened to us last year (the Tahlequah JV forfeited to the Wolves), and it worked out to our advantage. Our kids are going to be fired up and ready to go when we face Panama next week.”
