Heavy rains, flash floods forecast for county

July 30, 2014

According to the National Weather Service, showers with embedded isolated thunderstorms will continue to spread eastward into eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas today and continue into at least Thursday morning, with locally heavy rain and isolated flash flooding possible.
Widespread 1-3" of rain, with local amounts to 5", will fall through midday Thursday, especially along and on either side of the Interstate 40 corridor.
A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect from 1 p.m. today [July 30] to 1 p.m. Thursday, including the cities of Tulsa, Fort Smith, McAlester and Muskogee.
The rain and cloud cover will keep afternoon temperatures today well below normal levels, and perhaps even below normal low temperatures for this time of year in a few spots.
