SEMINOLE — The Poteau Pirates golf team is heading back to state. The Pirates were third at Monday’s Class 4A Regional Tournament at Jimmie Austin Golf Course.
The Pirates had a first-round score of 323, then shaved eight strokes off over the second 18 holes to finish the 36-hole event with a 638.
Ada, the favorite to win state next week, had a 297-296—593 to win the regional title.
The Class 4A State Tournament will be next Monday and Tuesday at Lake Hefner North Golf Course in Oklahoma City. Monday will be the first two rounds, then the final 18 holes of the 54-hole event will take place Tuesday.
In Monday’s regional, Poteau had a regional medalist as Cody Shore was fourth-place medalist with a 76-70—146.
Connor Wheat had Poteau’s second-best day with a 75-83—158.
Jarrett Lowrimore (87-80) and John Scott Sanders (85-82) each carded 167s, while Conner Bandy had an 87-88—175.
Cameron Golfer Returning to State
SAPULPA — Cameron golfer Kody Whitehead qualified for the Class 2A State Tournament for the second straight spring.
Whitehead had the second-best score among the individuals who qualified for state at Monday’s Class 2A Regional Tournament at Clary Fields Golf Course. Whitehead, who was 11th overall, shot a 76-75—151.
Whitehead will play in next week’s Class 2A State Tournament at Broken Arrow’s Emerald Falls Golf Course. The first 36 holes of the 54-hole event will be played Monday, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Heavener Duo Competes
at Class 3A Regional
VERDIGRIS — Heavener’s Chance and Colt Dunigan saw their golf seasons come to an end at Monday’s Class 3A Regional Tournament at Scissortail Golf Course.
Chance shot a 211, while Colt carded a 213 for the 36-hole tournament. Neither made the cut to qualify for next week’s state tournament that will be at the Duncan Golf and Tennis Club next Monday and Tuesday.
