High school softball needs to be kept at fast-pitch only

November 30, 2011

I really don’t understand why high school girls play fast-pitch softball in the fall and slow-pitch softball in the spring.
I believe it would be to everyone’s advantage if they would play fast-pitch softball all year round. Our county is loaded with teams that are very highly regarded, and we had a state champion last fall — the Panama Lady Razorbacks.
Plus, the spring is the time of the year when all the surrounding states play fast-pitch softball — as well as at the collegiate level — and their spring schedule could be a stair step to bigger and better things.
If we persist in playing slow-pitch ball in the spring, I believe that varsity baseball teams should play coach-pitch ball in the fall of the year. It makes just as much sense.
