Hit and Run in Heavener

December 30, 2011

A Heavener man is recovering from injuries sustained in a Monday evening hit and run accident.
According the the incident report, Heavener Police Officer Derrick Woodral was notified that a hit and run accident involving a pedestrian had occurred at 605 W. Ave. H.
When Woodral arrived at the scene, he observed Marcus Skelton 26, of Heavener, who was allegedly suffering from a broken leg due to an incident between him and Jerami Casteel,23, of Heavener.
According to Woodral's report, witnesses at the scene said Casteel was driving a gold Dodge pickup and had left the scene after Skelton was injured. The witnesses reported that Casteel, who was in the drivers seat of the pickup when Skelton was struck, began to drive away from the residence with Skelton hanging onto the truck. The report also shows witnesses said Skelton was injured when Casteel stopped the truck, turned the wheel and began to back up.
Woodrals's report shows while he was at the scene of the incident a female friend of Casteel's arrived and asked to speak to him. She claimed the accident wasn't Casteels fault and that she told Woodral where Casteel was located.
The report shows Woodral left the scene and located Casteel and upon questioning him about the incident learned that Casteel claimed Skelton struck him through the window and as he tried to leave Skelton continued to strike him as he hung on to the moving truck.
Casteel was placed under arrest for leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries and transported to the LeFlore County Detention Center.
Skelton was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. It is unclear if Skelton will face any charges in the incident.
