Hodgen girls, Monroe teams seek ORES state berths this week; Fanshawe teams, Shady Point boys, Hodgen boys still alive in area consolation side of playoffs

February 13, 2013

Three LeFlore County junior high teams are a win away from making it to the Organization of Rural Elementary Schools (ORES) State Tournament next week in Shawnee.
In the Division II Area Tournament at McAlester's Frink-Chambers Middle School, the Hodgen Lady Bulldogs beat Broken Bow Holly Creek 47-14 last weekend and will play Brushy at 7 p.m. Friday at the same site for a trip to the state tournament. If the Lady Bulldogs lose, they can still go to state by winning the consolation championship at 5 p.m. Saturday against the winner of Friday's game between Holly Creek and Idabel Denison.
The Bulldogs lost their first game in the playoffs last weekend, falling 45-18 to Brushy. The ’Dogs will play in the consolation semifinals against Holly Creek at 6 p.m. Friday. The winner will meet the loser of Friday's area championship game between Brushy and Denison at 6 p.m. Saturday for a berth to state as consolation champions.
In the Division IV Area Tournament at Fanshawe, the Monroe teams, like the Lady Bulldogs, are each a victory away from state. After getting a bye, the Eagles defeated Shady Point 56-26 last weekend. The Warriors opened the playoffs with a 46-23 victory over Whitefield.
The Eagles will play Stidham at 8 tonight for the right to go to state. Stidham defeated Fanshawe 46-26 after the Grizzlies opened with a 46-18 rout of Stilwell Greasy.
The Grizzlies and the Warriors will meet at 6 tonight in the consolation semifinals, with the winner playing at 3 p.m. Friday for the consolation championship against the Monroe-Stidham game, and a trip to state.
The Monroe Lady Eagles, who also got a bye in the opening round of the Division IV Area Tournament, soared past Whitefield 46-36 and will play Stidham at 7 tonight for the trip to the state tournament. A loss will drop the Lady Eagles into the consolation finals against the winner of this afternoon's Fanshawe-Whitefield consolation semifinal game, which will tip off at 5 this afternoon.
The Lady Grizzlies opened the area tournament with a 47-14 win over Shady Point.
