FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Every football fan has heard the old adage, "Defense wins championships." But your signal caller can also make a huge difference in whether your favorite football team wins or loses. Quarterback play and defense won the game for the Arkansas Razorbacks against the Auburn Tigers on Saturday night at Razorback Stadium.
Greenwood, Ark., native and starting quarterback Tyler Wilson made several great plays against Auburn. One in particular was when the Hogs were facing a 3rd-and-5 from their own 24 late in the second quarter. The play called was a simple hand off to Dennis Johnson. He was hit hard going off the right side, and the ball was jarred loose flying directly backward toward Wilson. He was just fast enough to recover the ball and maintain possession for the Razorbacks, outdueling an Auburn defensive back for the the pigskin. The Hogs then faced a 4th-and-10 and punted, instead of the Tigers having a 1st-and-10 at the Arkansas 20. A touchdown for Auburn at that point would have knotted the score at 21-21, and potentially changed the entire complexion of the game. Wilson made a great play.
