House fire claims three lives; still under investigation

January 21, 2013

Two adults and a young child were killed Saturday morning during a house fire in Latham.

A house fire Saturday morning took the lives of three people - Paul and Levunia Helton, both 73, and their 2 year-old great grandson Riley Metzker.
According to the State Fire Marshal's Investigator, Tony Rust, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale said the fire began around 9:30 a.m. When firefighters from Shady Point, Latham / Dog Creek, Panama and Poteau arrived, the home was fully engulfed.
The bodies of the three victims have been sent to the Oklahoma Medical Examiners Office to determine the exact cause of death.
Seale said it is possible the fire was the cause of a propane leak.
