Howe basketball player given medical hardship to play her 'senior' season

June 27, 2014

DAPPER DAVIS — Howe basketball player LuAnn Davis poses with the Class 2A District Tournament championship plaque after the Lady Lions won the district title in February. Although Davis graduated in May, due to missing most of her senior season due to heart ailments and open-heart surgery, she was granted a new "senior" season of basketball thanks to a medical hardship by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association. This past basketball season was a scary one for 2014 Howe High School senior basketball player LuAnn Davis.
During the 2014 LeFlore County Tournament, she collapsed at Carl Albert State College's Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. Davis, who had dealt with heart issues in the past, had the biggest issue of them all. She had open-heart surgery in Little Rock, Ark., to repair the damage. She made a full recovery, but could not return to action on the hardwood.
It was found out this week that the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association granted Davis a medical hardship allowing another season of basketball eligibility to play, if you will, her senior season all over again.
