HOWE â€” Several All-State honors came the way of three graduating senior Howe High School basketball players.
Brianna Hillebrand and Jared Brown were each named to the 2012 Indian All-State Basketball Teams. They will play in the 2012 Indian All-State Games June 16 at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville. Hillebrand's game will take place at 6 p.m., followed by Brown's game at 7:30 p.m.
A third Howe hoopster not only will get a chance to play in one All-State Game, but two. Megan Brown will play in both the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State Game at 3 p.m. June 2 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. Then, she will get to play in the OCA All-State Game during All-State Games Week in late July in the Tulsa metropolitan area.
Hillebrand averaged 8.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game for the Lady Lions, who finished this past season with a record of 27-3 and got to the consolation finals of the Class 2A Area Tournament, where they lost to Amber-Pocasset March 3 at the new Wilburton Gym. She had a field-goal percentage of 62 percent and a 71.4 free-throw percentage. She also is an Academic All-Stater with a 4.13 grade-point average.
Jared Brown averaged 17 points, three steals, five rebounds and nine assists per game last season for the Lions, who finished the year with a record of 18-9 and got to the Class 2A Regional Tournament.
Megan Brown averaged 15.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in her senior season. She shot 49 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the free-throw line.
Two other local players got recognized as Indian All-Staters. Leflore's Dakota Watson made the first team All-Indian All-State, but will not participate in the June 16 contest.
Talihina's Krissy Houston made the second team All-Indian All-State Team, and will be an alternate for the June 16 contest should someone currently slated to play cannot or will not.
