November 1, 2013

The 2013-14 season will begin for the Howe Lady Lions and Lions tonight at Smithville. The girls game will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys at approximately 8 p.m.
The Lady Lions were 19-9 last season and return two starters from that team — seniors LuAnn Davis (14 points, 2.1 rebounds per game last season) and Savannah Smallwood (2.8 points, 3.2 rebounds).
Rounding out the roster are Kerstein Hall, Tori Johnson, Jentry Brown, Kealy Brandin, Jaiden Griffith, Alice Stephens, Kelsee Williams, Macee Williams, Allison Beames and Shala Brown.
The Lions were 21-9 last season and return all five starters, who averaged a combined 50 points a game last season. Four of those five are seniors — Stephen Helmandollar (16 points, 10 rebounds a game), Brent Hill (12 points, nine rebounds), Nick Smallwood (10 points, three rebounds) and Chesly Hall (three points, three rebounds). Sophomore Gaven Brown (nine points, four rebounds) rounds out the returning starters.
Zack Jones, Josiah Mitchell, Colten Meeks, Robert Trotter, Chance Mitchell, Stephen Smith, Pedro Rojas and Chase Blake round out the roster.
Editor's note: More season preview stories will appear in later editions between now and Christmas break as coaches return their preseason questionnaire for information for season preview stories and their respective seasons will begin.
