Howe fifth-sixth grade teams win own Tip-Off Tournament last weekend

HOWE — The basketball season got underway in fine fashion last weekend for the Howe fifth-grade basketball teams as they won their own Howe Tip-Off Tournament at the Howe Gym.
The Lions defeated Wister 37-35 in the finals. Howe reached the finals with wins over Keota (23-8) and Heavener (32-19), while Wister made the title game with victories over Howe Red (30-10) and Monroe (33-13).
Other first-round games saw Monroe defeat Leflore 44-14, while Heavener knocked off Cameron 22-13.
The Lady Lions posted an 18-12 victory over Wister in the title contest after beating Keota (23-9) and Heavener (33-8). Wister reached the championship game with victories over Howe Red (30-0) and Leflore (23-10).
Heavener edged Cameron 19-18 in another opening-round contest, while Leflore got past Monroe 26-22.
