MIDWEST CITY — Howe Lady Lion shot putter and discus throw Savannah Smallwood earned two medals at the Class 2A State Meet, which took place Friday and Saturday at Carl Albert High School's Titan Stadium.
Smallwood was state runner-up in the shot put (35-8.5) and sixth in the discus (103-6). She missed out on a state title in the shot put by two inches as Hennessey's Shelby Crump took state in the event (35-10.5).
The Lady Lion quartet of Jentry Brown, LuAnn Davis, Kealy Brandin and Kerstein Hall placed in two relay events, but did not medal. They were 13th in the 800-meter relay (1:59.77) and 16th in the 400-meter relay (56.75 seconds).
One other local trackster placed at state, but did not medal. Talihina's Keisha Brown was ninth in the long jump (15-3).
