Howe man charged in alleged assault on officer

August 5, 2013

A man jailed in June for burglary is facing new charges after he allegedly struck another inmate and a detention officer.
Cody Linder Riley, 19, of Howe, was charged by the LeFlore County District Attorney's Office on Friday with assault and battery on a detention officer and a second charge of assault and battery stemming from an incident on July 18.
According to the affidavit, detention officer Kevin Knight heard a noise coming from a holding cell and when he went to investigate he saw Riley kicking another inmate who was lying on his bed in his side.
The report shows Knight entered the cell and escorted Riley out. During that time, Knight said Riley turned and swung at him, striking him in the face with a fist.
Riley is being held in the LeFlore County Detention Center in lieu of $7,500 bond in connection with the assault charges.
