WILBURTON — The Howe High School basketball teams each posted wins to begin the first-ever Wilburton Tournament on Thursday at the new Wilburton High School Gym.
The Lady Lions handled the Poteau Lady Pirates freshmen 70-16, while the Lions led from start to finish to down the Red Oak Eagles 53-41 to snap Red Oak's six-game winning streak.
The Lady Lions (9-1) will play the winner of Thursday's Wright City-Okemah game at 4 p.m. this afternoon in the championship semifinals. The winner will play for the championship at 6 p.m. Saturday, while the loser will play for third place at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Lions (8-2) will face the victor of Thursday's Okemah-Wilburton JV game at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the championship semifinals, with the winner playing for the title at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Today's loser will play for third place at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Poteau freshmen girls will play the Wright City-Okemah loser at 10 a.m. this morning in the consolation semifinals, with the winner playing for the consolation title at noon Saturday. The loser of this morning's game will be eliminated from the tournament.
