April 28, 2012

DEWAR — If there was such a thing as a gut-wrenching loss, the Howe Lady Lions softball team may have suffered it Thursday afternoon in the Class 3A Regional Tournament.
After tying the game with a two-run seventh inning, the Preston Lady Pirates scored once in the ninth inning to down the Lady Lions 6-5 to end their season.
The Lady Lions (8-12) scored twice in the first and fourth innings for a 4-0 lead, only to see the Lady Pirates cut the deficit to 4-3 by the sixth inning.
After Howe took a 5-3 lead in the seventh inning, Preston scored twice in the home half of the frame to tie the game at 5-all to send the game into extra innings.
The Lady Lions had a chance to break the 5-5 tie in the top of the ninth inning, but left the bases loaded.
