I got a response from state representative, wildlife department

April 19, 2012

I had a short phone visit on Tuesday morning with State Representative James Lockhart and a couple of officials from the Department of Wildlife Conservation about the new regulation that now prohibits baiting on Wildlife Management Area lands. I really appreciated Mr. Lockhart taking the time to read my column and respond.
The conversation included issues regarding hunter conflicts, and possible disease spreading because of concentration of deer at feeders.
Lockhart is going to get back with me soon so I can give his comment.
Hopefully, the wildlife department will announce a resolution/compromise upon which both sides can agree. I was not totally impressed (nor convinced) by the answers I got from the wildlife officials on the issues, but I will wait until I talk with Mr. Lockhart again before I go into the details of the conversation that we had.
Have a great week!
