The fishing is heating up, along with the weather. I have actually had time to take my boat out to get after some big ol' bass.
This week was my best bass fishing week of my life, as far as size of fish caught is concerned — including my personal best of six pounds.
Saturday morning, Dan Carter and I headed to a private lake at daylight to try our luck. During the first hour, we fished with topwater poppers and caught a few small fish before heading to the deep water in the middle of the lake.
The first cast I made to some submerged trees with a red shad-colored worm was taken by a six-pound bass that I battled with for several minutes before landing. After pictures of the fish and high fives, Dan hooked up with a good fish on his next cast that would weigh close to five pounds. I tried to help him land it, and the line broke. I had to watch biggest bass of Dan’s life swim off. I felt awful.
During the rest of the day, we ended up catching three fish greater than four pounds, three fish more than three pounds and several more than two pounds, including Dan’s biggest fish to date — a 2.5-pounder. Our five biggest fish weighed in at 22 pounds.
That afternoon, we gathered our wives and my boys, and headed back out to the little lake to enjoy the rest of the day and have a little picnic after the storms passed through. It was a great time, and I am looking forward to doing it again soon.
Have a great week!
