I hope y'all made it through the ice storm

December 13, 2013

A "BEAR" LOOK — Here's local coaching legend Bob Free, circa late 1970s, donning his Paul "Bear" Bryant clothing. Who knew his red-colored outfit would be popular 2.5 decades later as the Poteau Pirates will play for the Class 4A state football title Saturday afternoon against No. 1 Anadarko at Oklahoma State Unviersity's Boone Pickens Stadium. I hope you all made it through last week's ice storm. We watched a lot of football, and we went sledding every afternoon. Jarrett Lilley won the long-distance contest for 2013 this year, followed by Jon Pickel — but Jon did use special additives on his sled's bottom like Clark Griswold to aid his speed and distance. At Jon's age, you got to do everything you can to gain an advantage!
A “Free” Story
If you hang out at Tote-A-Poke for just five minutes, you'll hear someone tell a Bob Free story, especially if Phillip Zearley is there.
Some of my favorite Bob Free stories are: peach cobbler, my shoe is still buried in the garden, stolen firewood and Mr. St. Bernard.
Save the world, recycle.
God bless our troops and veterans.
Have a great weekend.
