Imogene Webb Garrett, 96, passed awayMonday, Oct. 24, 2011. at her residence inHawley, Texas. Graveside services will beheld at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 29, at SpiroCity Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7p.m. Thursday at Elliott-Hamil FuneralHome, Abilene, Texas.Imogene was born Aug. 20, 1915, inSpiro to Lee and Nanna Webb. She grewup in Webb Town and graduated from Spiro High Schoolwhere she was the high scorer on the basketball team.Imogene graduated from college in Durant. She interviewedwith Ulyss Garrett for a teaching position. She gotthe job and a husband. Imogene married Ulyss in 1940 inLas Vegas. They lived a couple of years in Dallas, thenmoved back to their home country. From 1947 to 1952 shelived in Spiro and taught school. Imogene joined EasternStar in Spiro and remained a member until the time of herdeath.In 1952, she moved to Alhambra, Calif., with her husband.While in California, they also lived in Glendora,Holtville, and Riverside. In each of those locations, shetaught first grade and was active in her local church. InRiverside, she was involved in Woman’s Club and PEO.She was also active in several educational organizations.Imogene was an accomplished pianist and used hertalents wherever she lived. As a girl she played the pianoat her father’s silent movie theatre. Later she accompaniedmany church and school vocal groups, including a quartetin which her husband sang.In 1994, Imogene made her last earthly move to thestate of Texas. She has now made her final and best moveinto the arms of her dear Savior.Survivors include her two daughters, Deanna Thomasand husband, Doug of Hawley, Texas, and Peggy Strongand husband, Ed of Rainbow, Calif.; her two grandsons,Joe Manor and wife, Laura of Riverside, and TrevorThomas of Abilene; and one great-grandson, Joey Manorof Riverside.Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.You may view and sign guestbook at www.elliotthamilfuneralhome.com.
