Inmate attempts suicide

A Sebastian County
inmate set to stand trial in
Oklahoma for murder was
transported to a Fort Smith
hospital after Sebastian
County Detention Officers
discovered he was wounded.
Elvis Thacker, 23, of
Cedarville, Ark., was treated
and released at Sparks
Regional Medical Center
this weekend for a superficial
wound to his neck that
is believed to have been a
suicide attempt.
Sunday afternoon, detention
officers issued razors
to inmates who are given an
allotted amount of time to
shave, then the razors are
retrieved and disposed of.
When the detention officers
collected Thacker’s razor,
they observed a cut to his
neck believed to be self
Thacker was sentenced
last week to two thirty year
sentences in Arkansas after
he entered a guilty plea to
the charges of kidnapping
and attempted capital murder.
He will stand trial in
LeFlore County for the
charge of murder first
degree in connection to the
Briana Ault murder in
September 2010. Ault’s
body was found in a pond
in Pocola near Texas Road
just hours after her burned
car had been located. Ault
was reported missing by
her mother after she failed
to return home after work.
During the investigation
into her death, officers
named Thacker and his
brother Johnathen Thacker
as persons of interest in her
slaying. Wanted in connection
with a separate rape
case, officers went to the
Thacker residence to serve
a felony warrant. Once
officers entered the home a
struggle ensued between
Thacker and Fort Smith
Detective James Melson, in
which Thacker stabbed
Melson multiple times
which resulted in Detective
Jeff Carter shooting him
twice in the abdomen. Both
brothers were taken into
custody to stand trial in
both Arkansas and
