James William Connelly

James William Connelly, 89, of Fayetteville, Ark., formerly of Poteau died Thursday, July 17, 2014. in Fayetteville. James was born May 2, 1925, in Poteau to Joseph and Helen Connelly. James was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He taught high school agriculture and worked in the livestock industry. James served as an ordained deacon in First Baptist Church, Poteau, and First Baptist Church, Hope, Ark., where he taught a Men’s Sunday School class. He was a member of Cross Church, Springdale, Ark. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved crappie fishing and quail hunting. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary Jo Henson, Betty Connelly, Patsy Branscum, Patricia Connelly, Margaret Campbell; brother, Harrel Connelly; beloved son-in-law, Dr. Walter Allison; his parents and stepfather, Perry Chaffin.Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Reba Burrow Connelly of Fayetteville; daughters, Deborah Allison of Conway, Ark., Donna and Mel Blackwood, Kimberly and Mike North of Fayetteville; son, Edwin and Cissy Connelly of Fripp Island, S.C.; grandchildren, Kara and Rob Bell, Kalyn and Justin Evans, Kyle Allison, Clint Blackwood, Mandy Blackwood, Jim and Amanda Connelly, Christian Connelly, Ayden North, Landon North; great-grandchildren, Allie Bell, Connelly Bell, Blake Evans and (due Sept. 2014) Samuel Walter Connelly, other relatives, loved ones and friends.Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau, with the Rev. Milburn Burrow officiating. Evans and Miller Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
