Janice Laverne Abernathy, 72, of Bokoshe, died Thursday, July 31, 2014, in Bokoshe. Janice was born Sept. 13, 1941, in Bokoshe to Raymond Forrest and Pearl E. (Brown) Richardson. Janice was a loving wife, wonderful, caring mother and grandmother. She was willing to sacrifice anything for her children and family regardless of her plans or how she felt. Janice loved watching her children, grand and great-grandchildren play sports. She especially enjoyed family gatherings. She attended New Life Gospel Church in Panama. Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Bob Abernathy Jr., on Feb. 9, 2013, and daughter, Bobbie J. Bell, on Aug. 15, 2011.
Survivors include her children, Trina and Rick Ward of Cameron, Jimmy and Celia Abernathy of Bokoshe, son-in-law, Mike Bell of Bokoshe; her special grandchildren, Misty and Joe Walker, Michael and Brittany Bell, Britney and Jansen Hambright, P.J. Rees, A.J. Rees, Daniel and Melissa Caldwell, Brett Abernathy and Aarika Stroup, Alex Abernathy; special great-grandchildren, Hayden Bell, Trenton Massey, Cameron Massey, Coby Bell, Cade Bell, Tanner Hambright, Jaycee Hambright, Brex Caldwell and Kinzler Caldwell; sister and brother-in-law, Lora Jean and Johnny Bozarth; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carold and Faye Abernathy; special cousins, Martha and John Bell; other relatives, loved ones and many friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at New Life Full Gospel Church, Panama, with the Rev. Joe Pierce and Leroy Orr officiating. Burial will be in Old Bokoshe Cemetery, Bokoshe. Pallbearers will be Rodney Abernathy, Eddie Abernathy, Skip Parker, Jerry Sides, Randy Richardson, Mike Walker and Charlie Burton. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
