Joyce â€śGGâ€ť Skinner Henry, 89, loving mother, grandmother, great- and great-great-grandmother of Colleyville, Texas, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving daughters Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012.
Joyce was born March 2, 1923, in Booneville, Ark., to Aaron and Vora Skinner. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1952, where she owned and operated Joyceâ€™s Beauty Salon until she moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1967. She owned and operated hair salons in Fort Worth until 2004.
â€śGGâ€ť as she was lovingly known, loved her family, gardening, cooking and family gatherings; especially, Thanksgiving when everyone got their favorite pies. When mother was diagnosed with Alzheimerâ€™s her family began to understand what a beautiful strong, resilient woman she really was. She lived alone, ran her business, and never ever complained about anything. She was a true woman of independent means.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Allison; sister, Jessie Mae Henry; half-sisters, Mamie Carter and Ollie Doyle; brothers, A.V. Skinner and Glenn A. Skinner; half brothers, Audley Skinner and Baxter Skinner; and nephew, David A. Henry.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol Gaston and husband, John, and Darlene Chesser and husband, Don; son, Ron Henry and wife, Treva; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Marie Berry and Levi Masyn Barnhart; four nephews; one sister-in-law, lovingly known as â€śSisâ€ť; and her precious Chihuahua, Como.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Poteau.Â Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery. â€¨Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brown, Owens and Brumley Funeral Home, Fort Worth.
