Katy Jean (Wann) Corn

Katy Jean (Wann) Corn was born June
20, 1952, in Poteau to Clifton and Kathryn
Wann. She died July 23, 2011, at her home
in Howe. She was 59.
Katy married the love of her life. Elester
“Ray” Corn. on Oct. 11, 1975, and raised
their children in LeFlore County. Katy
lived her life serving and helping others
through childcare and home health until her
retirement. She was active with the Girl Scouts early in her
life and the Green Country Cloggers. She spent the last
years of her life enjoying her children and grandchildren.
Katy is survived by her children Roberta and Jimmy
Dodd of Howe, Callie and Mark Place of Wister, former
state Sen. Kenneth Corn of Poteau, and Steven and Lynn
Herring of Greenwood, Ark. She also is survived by her
grandchildren Lance, Steven, and Shelby Couch, Connor
and Marlie Place, Jaylynn Herring and Ely and Ella Ernst
and one great-grandchild, Chance Couch. Katy also leaves
behind her parents Clifton and Kathyrn Wann and her siblings
Wade and Marsha Wann, Melba and J.D. Ford, Kathy
and Jerry Dale Davidson, Jessie and Eugene Tucker, Joyce
and Bobby Denton, and Eugene and Kim Wann as well as
one particularly special cousin, Brenda Gail Bryon. She
had 11 nieces and nephews and a host of other family and
friends.
Katy was preceded in death by her husband, one son
Danny Barto, mother-in-law Callie Austin, maternal grandparents
George and Jessie Wilson, and paternal grandparents
Aubrey and Amy Wann.
Pallbearers will be her cousins Robert, Billy, Mike,
Boyd and Dale Wilson, and Donny Weaver, Paul, Billy,
Joe and Frank Mode. Honorary Pallbearers are her nephews
Jason and Jacob Tucker, LC Brown, Justin Wann,
Tyler Wann, and Brant Denton.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Springhill
Baptist Church in Monroe with The Rev. Darrell Pierce
officiating. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery under the
direction of Dowden Funeral Home, Heavener.
