FORT SMITH, Ark. — Most everyone has heard the old saying, “A bad day at the office.” Unfortunately for the Eastern Oklahoma Riverdawgs Major American Legion baseball team, that axiom rang true for the locals Thursday at Forsgrem Field.
Kerwins opened its Legion season by sweeping the Riverdawgs in a pair of four-inning, run-rule games, 14-2 and 11-1.
In the two games combined, the ’Dawgs (2-4) used six different pitchers, one of those in both games — who combined to give up a grand total of 19 hits, 10 walks, hit four batters and threw two wild pitches. The Riverdawgs also committed 10 errors and had their catchers allow three passed balls in the twinbill.
“We just didn't play baseball,” Riverdawgs Coach Dave Oliver said. “That's the way baseball goes. I don't know what else to say that it was sad. A lot of their runs were gifts. The guys just haven't gelled together yet, but it will come.”
