KIM ROSS: Morning mumbles
"Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy," its National Donald Duck Day! The prank-playing quackster made his screen debut in 1934 in "The Wise Little Hen." His voice was the creation of Clarence Nash who brought vocal animation to the daring duck for 50 years. Little did I know until I did some research that Donald is listed as the No.1 animated cartoon character to appear in films — 178 total. He also bests many comic book heros as he ranks No.5 for most published comic book character. Didn't know that either. I do know he was jealous of Mickey Mouse and always was cut short before his rascally plans to thwart other characters came through. Most remembered for his pranks falling short, Donald's "Aw, phooey," phrase was coined by many across the world. Today also in National Open an Umbrella Indoors Day — Nope, nada, not happening, don't think so! It kinda falls in cahoots with breaking a mirror, stepping on the cracks, spilling salt and not tying a knot in your bed sheet before the screech owl quits screeching. Superstition is alive in well and I still throw salt over my shoulder if I spill it. Call it what you will — I say better safe than sorry. Its also National Ken Day — and although my co-worker Ken Milam firmly believes he is now entitled to a day off for being nationally recognized — I say not. My guess is Ken and Barbie are probably sunning on a Malibu beach in celebration of the day. Well guys and gals, I will catch ya later, Hope the day's fun facts are fodder for your mind.
