Poteau Lady Pirate golfer Hannah Ward won the Poteau Girls Invitational on Thursday at Wolf Ridge Country Club. The soon-to-be University of Arkansas-Little Rock Lady Trojan shot a 70 to win the top medalist title.
As a team, the Lady Pirates were third with a 368, finishing behind champion Idabel (346) and Fort Gibson (368). The Lady Tigers got the second-place finish due to their No. 5 golfer's score better than Poteau's to break the tie.
Ward was not the only local medalist. Her teammate, Skylynn Terry, was the eighth-place medalist (91). Alyssa Vineyard shot a 99, followed by Dallas Terry (108) and Shelli Cobb (113).
The Lady Pirates will return to action at 8:30 a.m. Monday in the Elgin Invitational, which is taking place at Lake Hefner Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
