A late rally came up just short as the Poteau Pirates OK Kids Midget baseball team suffered a 4-3 loss to the Texoma Lookouts Monday night in the OK Kids Midget Regional Tournament at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
The Pirates had to win an elimination game Tuesday night to have the chance to stay in the tournament. If they won Tuesday night's game, the Pirates will be in tonight's loser's-bracket semifinal at 8 p.m., with that winner playing in the loser's-bracket final at 6 p.m. Friday for the right to get to the 8 p.m. Friday title game.
Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the Lookouts tied the game on a pair of Pirate errors, then took a 4-1 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Parker Holland and a two-RBI double by Tanner Davidson.
The Pirates got right back into the game on one swing of the bat as Ben Klutts' two-run home run in the fifth inning cut the deficit to 4-3.
The Pirates had the tying run at second base in the sixth, and final, inning, but got picked off to put the rally to rest.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning on an RBI groundout by Klutts, which scored Seth Ryan.
In defeat, Ryan was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Dakota Eaves was 2-for-3 with a double and Klutts was 1-for-3 with a homer, two runs batted in and a run scored.
