LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages advanced to Friday night's championship semifinals of the 2012 Rock Island Conference Shootout with a 67-50 win over the Whitesboro Bulldogs Thursday night at the Leflore Gym.
The Savages were to play Kinta Friday night with the winner playing for the championship at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the new Wilburton High School Gym. The loser will play for third place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Bulldogs were in an elimination game Friday afternoon against Buffalo Valley, with the winner playing for the consolation championship at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the new Wilburton Gym.
The Leflore Lady Savages split their first two games in the Shootout. In a battle of Lady Savages Thursday night, Leflore upset Quinton 42-33 before losing 37-22 Friday afternoon in the semifinals to the Panola Lady Bearcats to drop the co-host Lady Savages into Saturday afternoon's third-place game.
The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs got a bye into Friday night's championship semifinal, where they were slated to meet Clayton for a berth in Saturday night's championship game at 7 p.m. at the new Wilburton Gym. A loss will drop them into the third-place game at 4 p.m. Saturday against Leflore.
