Leflore boys fall in area consolation finals to Cave Springs to see season end; Savages suffer area finals loss to Red Oak; Eagles, Lady Eagles make state

March 4, 2014

SAND SPRINGS — The Leflore Savages basketball team needed only one win this past weekend to make the Class B State Tournament. Unfortunately for the locals, it didn't happen.
The Savages saw the Cave Springs Hornets avenge the regional finals loss to Leflore with a 68-64 overtime victory over the Savages in Saturday night's Class B Area Tournament consolation finals.
The Savages had a shot at making state on Friday night, but came up short in a 57-52 loss to the Red Oak Eagles in the area finals.
The Eagles not only made state, but so did the Lady Eagles as Red Oak's girls got past the Timberlake Lady Tigers 61-55 in Friday night's area finals.
The Eagles will meet the Okeene Whippets in the Class B State Tournament quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Midwest City Carl Albert High School's Titan Fieldhouse.
The Lady Eagles will face Hammon at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany in the state quarterfinals.
