LeFlore County Emergency Management seeks to form RACES group

LeFlore County Emergency Management will hold a meeting Tuesday night for volunteers who wish to form a Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services group.

LeFlore County Emergency Management is inviting anyone interested in forming an amateur radio operators group to volunteer during disasters to attend a local meeting Jan. 8. The meeting will be held at the LCEM office at 6:30 p.m.
LCEM is in the process of forming a Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service, according to LCEM Director Michael Davidson.
"RACES is an FCC recognized extension of emergency management," said Davidson. "It allows for amateur radio operators and civilian volunteers to assist government agencies during times of crisis or disaster."
