LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Tournament next week

September 7, 2011

It's here. Next week will be the 2011 LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex. Games will begin Monday and end with the championship game (or games) on Thursday, Sept. 15.
Poteau was awarded the top seed, and the Lady Pirates took home the county championship last fall.
But this fall's event could be very interesting. Spiro, the No. 2 seed, has fallen to Poteau twice — each time by a single run.
Panama, the No. 3 seed, only got beat by Poteau 3-0 in last month's Lady ’Back Classic, but the Lady Pirates did run rule them about a week later.
Heavener is the fourth seed. While the Lady Wolves have fallen to both the Lady Pirates and the Lady Bulldogs, they have the capability of winning it just as well as the top three seeds do.
Talihina, which has not played softball for about two weeks because of lack of players due in part to an injured player, looks to be back in action by next week's tournament. When they were playing, albeit with nine players, the Lady Golden Tigers were holding their own — and getting great pitching from freshman Malacha Austin. Talihina could very well be the dark horse of this season's event.
The Arkoma Lady Mustangs are back in the tournament field after struggling last fall, and spring for that matter, of coming up with enough girls for a varsity team. That's not the problem this fall.
I don't know about you, but I'm quite eager to see what unfolds.
