There were several local winning individuals and relay teams at last week's Poteau Invitational at Costner Stadium.
On the girls' side, Poteau's Deven Bond won the 800-meter run (2:36.13), and she was a part of the winning 3,200-meter relay (10:32) with Colleen Peterson, Sheridan Hoyer and Jazmine Warren. Teammate Skyler Webster won the 100-meter hurdles (18.34 seconds), while Latifah Harris won the 400-meter dash (1:00.16).
Spiro's Kanisha Hutchinson won the long jump (15-2.5).
On the boys' side, Poteau's Jesse Woodson won the 100-meter dash (10.9 seconds), while teammate Trevor Shankle won the gold in the shot put (45-0).
Heavener's Shaun Bradley won the long jump (20-4.5).
Spiro's 1,600-meter relay team of McKinley Whitfield, Malik Walker, Devon Perry and Tyh Hawkins took first place (3:31.63). Hawkins won the 200-meter dash (23.21 seconds).
As for team standings, the Broken Bow Savages and the Idabel Lady Warriors took top honors. The Savages scored 99 points, followed by Quinton (79 points), Idabel (69), Vian (67), Spiro (66) and Poteau (61). The Heavener Wolves were 12th with 13 points.
For the girls, the Lady Warriors won the meet with 133 points, with the host Lady Pirates (106 points) a distant second. Broken Bow was third (73 points), followed by Roland (72) and Spiro (67). The Heavener Lady Wolves were 10th with 16 points.
For the Lady Pirates, the 1,600-meter relay team of Hoyer, Peterson, Warren and Harris were second (4:16.06), while Bond was runner-up in the 1,600-meter run (5:56). The 800-meter relay team of Shelby Standridge, Natalee King, Brianna Steele and Harris was also second with a time of 1:48.89, while Paitton Callery was runner-up in the pole vault (8-0).
Peterson was fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:04.53), Webster was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (56.42 seconds), Steele was sixth in the 200-meter dash (28.61) and King was sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.56).
For the Lady Bulldogs, Philicea Mack was runner-up (94-1) and Meochea McKesson sixth (73-6) in the discus, while Mack was second (34-0) and McKesson third (33-5) in the shot put. Tyeecha Hawkins was runner-up in the 100-meter (12.61 seconds) and 200-meter dashes (26.09), while Kaili Norwood was third in the 100-meter dash (13.45) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (28.0). Hutchinson was second in the 400-meter dash (1:02.39).
Five Lady Wolves produced their points. Krista Doyle was third in the long jump (14-11), Laura Jo Allen was fourth (88-0) and Lexi Moody fifth (85-8) in the discus, Moody was fifth in the shot put (29-8), Melyssa Lynch was fifth in the 800-meter run (2:52.12) and Johnna Enger was sixth in the 1,600-meter run (6:39).
For the Pirates, the 400-meter relay team of Austin Barnette, Woodson, Michael Reynolds and Kendrick Hardaway was second (44.26 seconds), Zack Roebuck was runner-up in the high jump (6-0), Nico Hall was fourth in the 1,600-meter (5:11) and 3,200-meter runs (11:20), Hardaway was fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.32 seconds), Dylan Fox was fifth in the 800-meter run (2:15.8), Shankle was fifth in the discus (117-1) and Barnette was sixth in the shot put (40-2).
For the â€™Dogs, McKinley Whitfield, Perry, Walker and Hawkins were fourth in the 400-meter relay (44.52 seconds), while Matt Jones, Shammond Williams, K.J. Booze and Orbre Fess were sixth in the 3,200-meter relay (9:35.99). Individually, Perry was runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles (15.33 seconds), Todd Whitfield was third in the 110-meter (16.05) and 300-meter hurdles (43.96), Fess was third in the pole vault (8-6) and McKinley Whitfield was fifth in the long jump (19-4).
For the Wolves, Aaron Turner tied for third in the discus (117-9.5).
Saturday will be regional meets at two different locations. Poteau (Class 4A), along with Heavener and Spiro (Class 3A) will be at the regional meet at Stroud, while Pocola (Class 2A) will be at the regional meet in Luther. The top three finishers in individual events and relays will automatically qualify for state the next weekend.
