Local golfing trio to play in 2012 Hudiburg Classic

May 25, 2012

Three local high school golfers will participate this Memorial Day Weekend in the 2012 Hudiburg Auto Group Oklahoma's Best High School Classic, which will take place Sunday and Monday at Midwest City's John Conrad Golf Course.
Poteau's Hannah Ward and Addie Guthrie, along with Cameron's Kody Whitehead, will represent LeFlore County in the event.
To qualify for the event, golfers have to place in the top 15 in their respective state tournaments. Ward won the Class 4A State Tournament May 3 at Oklahoma City's Lake Hefner South Golf Course, while Guthrie was eighth — and made All-State being the second-highest senior placer in the state tournament. Guthrie, who currently will walk on at Rogers State College, will participate in the 2012 Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Golf Tournament the last week of July in the Tulsa metropolitan area.
Whitehead tied for 14th at the Class 2A State Tournament on May 8 at Hinton's Sugar Creek Canyon Golf Course.
A fourth local golfer also qualified for the event, Poteau's Cathleen Manlove, who was 15th at the Class 4A State Tournament, but is not going to participate in the event as of press time.
