Local motorcycle racer wins national racing title last year

Earlier this month, the Poteau Pirates soccer team brought home a state championship. However, before 2013 a local motorcycle racer brought home a national title.
Bart Winters, who works at Cargill's Yamaha in Poteau, won the Vintage National Championship Series.
“I raced in about 10 races last year,” said Winters. “I worked pretty hard for it, so it felt pretty good.”
However, it wasn't the only title Winters brought home. He also won a grand prix race at Hallett, located about 30 miles west ot Tulsa.
“It's a road race track, but they have an off-road race there every first week of November,” he said. “It's quite big to have 900 competitors there show up. There's a big Vintage class, and I'd been trying to win it for a couple of years — and I finally won it last year.”
