Losses to Cushing, Chandler ends state run for Wister Wildcats

July 12, 2012

CHANDLER — It was a short stay for the Wister Wildcats OK Kids prep baseball team at the 2012 State Tournament.
The Wildcats suffered a 3-1 loss to the Cushing Tigers on Wednesday, then lost 5-3 in seven innings to the host Chandler Lions Thursday afternoon to be eliminated from the tournament.
In Thursday's loss, the ’Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning on RBI double by Davey Bullard and an RBI single by Cody Holzhammer.
Bullard got his second RBI of the game the painful way at he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force home Dillon Stallings in the second inning for a 3-0 lead.
But the Lions scored once in the third inning and twice in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3 to force extra innings, then scored twice in the seventh to get the come-from-behind win.
In defeat, Holzhammer was 2-for-4 with a double and a run batted in, Stallings was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Tristan Myers was 2-for-4 and Bullard was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Scotty Gibson was the hard-luck loser, pitching all seven innings with six strikeouts.
In Wednesday's loss to Cushing, the Tigers scored twice in the first and once in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
The lone run for the Wildcats came in the home half of the fourth inning.
Wister had only three hits, a single apiece by Stallings, Colby McGee and Caleb Moore. McGee suffered the loss.
