Loy J. Dobbins, 93, of Poteau died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, in Poteau. Loy was born July 30, 1919, in Dadeville, Mo., to Ormal and Eliza (Brotherton) Dobbins. Loy graduated from Dadeville High School and the University of Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Loy married Gertrude Frank July 3, 1959, in Tulsa. He worked at Guaranty Abstract Co. in Tulsa before moving to Poteau in 1971. In Poteau he worked for Logan Abstract Co. and ultimately retired from the Department of Human Services in 1988. Loy was preceded in death by his parents; Gertrude, his wife of 38 years; and brother, Herschel Dobbins.
He is survived by sister-in-law, Jessie Dobbins; nieces, Carolyn Carver and husband Diz of Crocker, Mo., and Elizabeth Neff of Poteau; nephews, Howard Frank and wife Lynda of Broken Arrow, Steve Chumley and wife Dian of Cypress, Texas; other nieces and nephews; and his Poteau First Christian Church family.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Tracy Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.Â Friends may honor Loyâ€™s memory with contributions to First Christian Church, PO Box 160, Poteau, OK 74953.
